Batteries can be tossed... Who knew?

La Greenga decided to do something green this weekend and picked battery recycling. I vaguely remembered we were not supposed to toss households batteries (AAs, AAA, etc...) so I repurposed a dietary supplement tub and turned it into a used battery collection bin (See photo).

I was getting ready to move on to Phase 2 of my plan: Nagging my husband into using said collection bin.

But turns out batteries can be tossed in the landfill without too much guilt, or so said Environmental Services. Turns out that since Congress mandated a mercury phase out in batteries in 1997, batteries are now pretty safe. Besides, it doesn't look like the Citizens Collection Centers take them...


Does anyone out there recycle batteries?
