The Solar City Task Force (of which I am a member) met with El Paso Electric this morning to see what's happening with the solar rebates that the company and the city agreed on in June. There is still no specific roll out date but they believe the money will be available sometime in September.
How much, you ask? A total of $1 million by the end of the year in the form of $2 per watt for residential photovoltaic systems (that's $6,000 off a 3,000 watt installation) and $1.75 per watt for commercial installations. There will be another $1.5 million available next year.
We all need to spread the word on the availability of this rebate. The worst thing that could happen would be for money to be left over. That would mean a sure end to the rebate program and serious doubts about El Paso's solar future.

Question: Do you have to install solar panels on your home in order to qualify for the rebate AND where do I get them and how to install? Ok that was 3 questions actually.
ReplyDeleteYou have to go through a contractor (solar installers) who will apply for the rebate for you. There are a few solar installers in town who can guide you through the process. I'm happy to hear you are looking into it. Good luck.
