Is Global Warming Real?
Yes! In 2001, the (Nobel Peace Prize winning) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change gathered research from hundreds of scientists worldwide and came to the scientific consensus that 1) the world is warming, and 2) that human activity is very likely (90% certainty) to blame. Since then, no scientific group has maintained a dissenting opinion. Even President Bush reversed his stance. Not believing in global warming today is like not believing that the HIV virus causes AIDS.
Would climate change hurt El Paso?
Our desert has been getting hotter (by 0.4 degrees Celsius per decade since 1976) and drier (losing 4% rainfall per decade since 1976), and the U.N. Environment Programme projected the trend would worsen, threatening desert ecosystems, farming and water supplies.
