About a third of your trash is paper
So I have to admit, I didn't pick up any trash this weekend. I'm not proud of myself but I just slept through the Big American Clean Up. There's always next weekend, right? In the meantime, I found this really shocking stats (shocking to me at least). If you had asked me to say what material made the largest slice of our waste, I'd have said plastic. Turns out, it's paper. (Pie chart by the U.S. EPA.)

The folks in BNHR shirts did a superb job of picking up trash and recyclables during the immigration reform march. Kudos for a well-organized event.
ReplyDeleteWould you know if they have a pie chart that shows how much of the MSW pie components are then recycled?
ReplyDeleteThe pie chart seems to indicate that a national campaign emphasizing the first R--reduce--is in order.
