Are there locavores in El Paso?

I'd like to research how to eat more locally-grown food here but I don't know where to start. Are there any locavores in El Paso?

I haven't seen any signs at the supermarket that say, "Grown Locally," or "Grown in Southern New Mexico." So, how do I know? Where do I go? Help!

(The photo is of prickly pears, FYI.)

    Greetings La Greenga!

The Ardovino's Desert Crossing Farmers' Market is a good place to purchase local vegetables, goat cheese, and other food products. It starts in late May or early June and takes place every Saturday until October-ish.

There are farmers' markets held in various locations in El Paso sponsored by the El Paso Growers Association and the Valley Growers Association. Go to: http:// picktexas.com/farm_market/elpaso.htm for locations.

Also, Mountain View Market (a co-op) in Las Cruces held a farmers' market every Sunday last summer The co-op also sells local food products throughout the year, which varies with the seasons. Also in Las Cruces is a year-round farmers' market held downtown on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

There will be a local food conference in Midland at the end of this month:
